The mumuye tribe were known for their expressionist interpretation of the human form. Often some pieces would contain an allegorical tale crafted to amuse, caution or incite moral debate.
It is uncertain whether the sculpture depicts fraternal twins appearing to be conjoined at the hip or a man and a woman in conjugal union. This sort of sculptures were typically used to convey fertility.
Decorative use: his piece cannot stand unassisted. It can be displayed on a unit or mantel piece but requires support.
