Pascal Knapp, a resin sculpture titled 'Cattle' (1999) from Switzerland, part of the CowParade edition 'Cows on Parade' in Chicago, in black, white and red with the letters CATTLE, measuring 11 cm high, 18 cm wide and 7 cm deep and weighing 220 g, unsigned and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
An extremely beautiful cow decorated in black with white and red letters. The cow is one from the CowParade series. The artist is Pascal Knapp. Knapp was the original designer of the three official base shapes of the fiberglass cows for CowParade (the standing, lying, and grazing cow) that are used worldwide by other artists as canvases. This specific design (black with red elements and the red and white letters 'CATTLE') is likely also created by Pascal Knapp. This makes it a fairly rare piece that is hard to find.
The cow is 11 cm high, 18 cm wide, and 7 cm deep. It weighs about 220 g. The sculpture is made of resin, a kind of synthetic resin. It was produced in several sizes. This sculpture is a medium-sized piece. The sculpture is not signed in the material. It probably once had an official sticker on the underside, which was common with the early models, but that sticker is no longer present.
The title of this cow is 'Cattle'; Knapp created this specific design as a prototype and as a statement. By presenting the letters "CATTLE" (cattle) in a very minimalist and clean way, he captured the essence of his own sculpture: reducing the animal to its most basic, industrial, and linguistic form.
Pascal Knapp (born August 13, 1957 in Zurich) is a Swiss sculptor who has become worldwide known mainly as the creator and designer of CowParade. This is the largest public art project in the world, where life-sized art cows are exhibited in major cities around the world.
CowParade is an art project that has been implemented in a large number of cities around the world. The idea is that a number of cow statues made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic are painted by (local) artists and dispersed in the city for display. After several months, the sculptures are auctioned and the proceeds go to a good cause. Small editions of all the cows have also been cast in polyresin and made of porcelain.
The sculpture is carefully packed and shipped insured.
