Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Matra Murena 1.6 from 1981, restored with a rebuilt engine and overhaul of electrical and cooling systems, manual transmission, 1600 cc, 115 hp, 1500 km mileage, Italian registration papers, located in northern Italy, chassis X5551BX608703, MOT valid, in very good overall condition with minor paint and body wear and very good interior and mechanical condition.
Description from the seller
Unique opportunity for Matra brand enthusiasts.
Matra Murena 1.600 from 1981 restored. 15" WHEELS APPROVED on the registration and a new, MODIFIED engine.
Inspection done February 2026.
The car has been fully restored in bodywork, engine, systems (hydraulic, cooling, electrical).
The electrical system has been redesigned and built from scratch.
To avoid modifying the original engine (available for sale), another Murena 1.6 engine was purchased and prepared and tuned. Specifically, the engine has cast pistons, is balanced and uses Maurelec intake manifold with two Weber double-barrel 40 carbs.
The gearbox has been rebuilt.
All water hoses (including the lower ones that go to the front radiator) and fuel lines have been replaced. The two water radiators have been rebuilt.
The car should be around 115/120 hp and the engine is new (with less than 1500 km. Note that I changed the odometer cable three times, but it kept breaking, so I have not mounted it yet).
The entire bodywork has been aesthetically refreshed by removing the rubber separators between bumper and roof. The front lights are Volvo 480 and are fixed and open, while the rear lights are Simca to recall its origins.
DOCUMENTATION
With Italian documents included.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
