Description from the seller
Bodywork & paintwork:
The sheet metal of the car is in very good condition and there are no signs of previously repaired serious damage anywhere. The seam between the door and front wing on the right is not uniform along its full height. All other body seams run as they should.
Door rubbers are due for replacement. (new door rubbers are present)
Chrome work on the car is in good and original condition.
Glass is well transparent all around and window operation functions. Window rubbers are in neat condition.
Furthermore, there is nothing else known about welds and no welding is needed on the car.
Right rear has had the door and rear fender replaced after an accident by a repairer.
The undercarriage is in good condition. There is no damage to the floor plate; the same applies to the inner rock panels and the box members.
Here and there there is some rust formation and/or blisters. At the sill of the left and right front doors there is rust formation. This deserves attention.
Technical:
The car drives, shifts, and brakes as it should. The powerful 200 hp V8 starts well and runs smoothly when cold as well as when at operating temperature.
On LPG the car runs well. On petrol the engine runs less well/not well. Early timing/distribution requires attention as does the injection.
In 2024 the car had a new APK inspection and the four tires were replaced.
In 2023 the car was equipped with a new battery.
In 2020 the LPG system was checked and repaired
In 2019: new injectors
In 2018: electronic ignition, front brake caliper overhaul
In 2017: full stainless steel exhaust, cylinder heads overhauled, new alternator, fuel pump, brake discs, coil.
Sunroof revision and paintwork
In 2012 transmission overhaul
In 2011 replacement power steering pump
All documentation is present with the car.
Interior:
The brown upholstery of the front seats and rear bench is in very good condition and there are no damages anywhere. The driver's seat adjustment also functions properly.
All interior panels are present and in good condition with the exception of a single window trim; here and there there are some dry cracks.
Original carpet set remains in neat condition.
The headlining is original and in neat condition. A small piece near the rear window is coming loose.
Dashboard in good condition. The top panel shows some dry cracks. The clock no longer functions.
The steering wheel shows some dry cracks. (a black steering wheel is also present)
This Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 comes with a folder of maintenance records. It shows that the car has been professionally maintained. Both the gearbox and the cylinder heads have been rebuilt. The read odometer of 11,053 is probably 111,053 km given the documents (ANWB inspection).
Conclusion:
The Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 is in good, partially restored condition. In terms of appearance and under the hood, this car presents a positive image. Appraisal 2023 condition 3+
Of course it is a car from 1971 and has endured 55 years. The car has received the necessary attention and it will certainly continue to demand it in the future.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
