An impressive and complete 19th-century Russian Orthodox four-part household icon. Made of cast copper/brass on an original wooden panel. Possibly from the Moscow region or Pomorje. Center: Ascension of Christ and the Descent into Hell, richly decorated with blue champlevé enamel. Top left: The Mother of God Hodegetria. Top right: The Mother of God of Vladimir. Bottom left: The Mother of God of the Sign. Bottom right: Saint Nicholas of Myra, with blue enamel accents in the background. Back side fitted with inward sponges. Belgium, private possession.
