Description from the seller
A beautiful, mid-20th-century marine-style aneroid barometer, styled after a ship's porthole window. This distinctive maritime instrument is heavily chrome-plated and features an authentic working hinged bezel secured by a screw-down toggle lock. The barometer is inset into a thick, premium black leather-padded circular base with decorative perimeter stitching, making it perfect for desk display or wall mounting.
The deep black dial face showcases highly stylized white lettering and an elegant central compass rose motif. The outer atmospheric scale measures barometric pressure in inches of mercury.
Specifications & Features:
Country of Origin: Western Germany
Period: Circa 1950s–1970s
Material: Chrome-plated brass/metal, glass, genuine leather casing
Mechanism: Aneroid (liquid-free) barometric movement
Dial Indicators: Stormy, Much Rain, Rain, Change, Fair, Set Fair, Very Dry
Cosmetic Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The chrome plating remains highly reflective with only minor age-related pitting and faint oxidation spots near the hinges and seals, adding to its authentic nautical character. The leather base is structurally sound with intact stitching.
Glass: The heavy glass cover is clear and free of deep scratches or cracks.
Rear: The reverse side reveals the mechanical housing panel with standard calibration adjustment screws intact.
Note: The physical movement of the needle reacts to atmospheric pressure changes, but the instrument has not been formally recalibrated for precision accuracy.
