Description from the seller
Eva Zeisel Schramberg Ceramic Jug - 'Mondrian' Decor (Liqueur Bottle)
A striking earthenware pitcher with a footed-style rounded body and a pinched spout, designed during Eva Zeisel's short but productive period in Germany. The vessel is adorned with the 'Mondrian' pattern, characterized by lively, hand-painted polychrome 'banded' ribbons in primary colors on a speckled gray background. The deep oxblood-red glazed handle and the matching rounded stopper provide a refined contrast to the playful geometric abstraction of the body.
A highly collectible icon of women-led modernism and the early career of a design legend.
The 'Mondrian' pattern is a tribute to the Dutch De Stijl artist Piet Mondriaan, and reflects the era's obsession with primary colors and geometric lines.
Surface
Glossy tin glaze (majolica) with hand-painted underglaze decoration; the gray background exhibits a characteristic brush-stroke texture, while the colored bands have a slightly raised impasto appearance.
Weight & Feel
Lightweight for its size, typical of earthenware produced at SMF, with a balanced feel when held by the band-style handle.
Also the presence of the original stopper significantly increases its value.
Height 26 cm
Width 11.7 cm
Weight 500 g
