Description from the seller
GENERAL
This 1991 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 is a beautiful example of the iconic R129 generation, which at the time represented the peak of the roadster segment. Under the hood lies the famous 5.0-liter M119 V8 engine with four valves per cylinder, at the time delivering an impressive power of 326 hp and a smooth torque of 450 Nm. This particular unit has a mileage of around 87,000 miles on the clock. The car is now 35 years old and combines the legendary, rock-solid build quality of Mercedes-Benz from the 1990s with timeless sportiness.
BODYWORK & PAINT
This beautiful black roadster is in good paintwork condition, although the car has, given its age, the usual signs of use. Unfortunately there is a small dent at the very bottom of the front-right bumper and a scratch on the fender, which is shown accurately in the photos. The trim pieces are in good condition. The convertible roof and the soft top are also very well maintained and function perfectly, which is often a well-known pain point in the R129 series.
TECHNICAL
The Mercedes-Benz is in good technical condition. There are no oil leaks and the underbody is completely rust-free, as clearly visible in the photos. All four tires have recently been replaced and are mounted on the glossy chrome AMG wheels, which show light signs of curb rash. In the cabin all electronics function properly and the automatic transmission shifts extremely smoothly, delivering the characteristic, comfortable driving experience one expects from this Grand Tourer.
INTERIOR
The interior is in the expected condition for a car of 35 years and shows the normal signs of use that come with it. The bolster at the entry side of the driver's seat is slightly damaged from getting in and out. A major plus is that the sun visors are in good condition, as this is a known, vulnerable issue of the SL series. The original Mercedes-Benz floor mats are still in the car and the overall finish was initially done with high-quality materials.
DOCUMENTS
In terms of documentation, the car is fairly complete. Although the original factory manuals are unfortunately missing, there is quite a bit of invoice history that provides insight into the maintenance performed. It concerns a Canadian import. The car has now been registered with a Dutch license plate, but can be converted to an export plate with us if desired and in consultation.
PICK-UP
The car has a Dutch license plate and can be picked up after purchase in Dedemsvaart, the Netherlands. If self-picking up is not possible, we can arrange worldwide shipping. You can always request a no-obligation quote from us to discuss options and rates.
OTHER INFORMATION
Note that for an auction there is a legal obligation for the buyer to conduct due diligence. We therefore recommend carefully checking exactly what you are bidding on. If there are any uncertainties or if you have specific questions about the condition of the vehicle, feel free to contact the seller in advance.

Request help with registration from a third-party service provider.Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
