About the artist:
Josef Steinling (1846–1915) was a Viennese history painter and restorer, who was active in the Viennese art scene in the late 19th and early 20th century.
Biographical details:
Profession: He is documented mainly as a history painter and restorer.
Career: Steinling was closely associated with the Vienna Künstlerhaus. There, in 1894, he assumed the position of
librarian as the successor of the printmaker Victor Jasper.
Exhibitions: His works were shown in important exhibitions, including the Austrian Jubilee Art Exhibition in Vienna.
Portraits & Archive: The Wien Museum preserves several photographs of him, depicting him among other things in Tyrolean dress as well as together with his wife Anna.
