AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Unique Wall Object / Triptych MATERIAL MEMORIES

This unique triptych originates from Daniel Heilig's Compagnons de Vie collection — a body of work dedicated to preserving the soul, history and material memory of extraordinary found materials.

The artwork combines original fragments from two collectible design pieces: HAMBURG and VAREL. Historic heat-patinated baking sheets from HAMBURG meet sea-air-patinated steel elements and a fragment of more than 100-year-old bog oak from VAREL, originally sourced from a historic North German high-moor jetty.
Removed from their functional context and reassembled as an autonomous wall object, the materials reveal traces of time, craftsmanship, weathering and use. Rather than concealing imperfections, the work celebrates them as evidence of history and transformation.

Each element is mounted within a solid oak shadow-gap frame, creating a quiet architectural presentation that emphasizes the materiality and individuality of every fragment. Integrated wall mounts on the reverse allow the triptych to be displayed as a cohesive sculptural composition.

Material Memories continues the central idea of Compagnons de Vie: giving existing materials a new significance while preserving the stories embedded within them.
Unique piece.

Dimensions: 3x 38,6 x 68 x 5,8 cm
Weight: 20,6 kg overall (3,9 kg baking sheet + 9,4 kg metal caps + 7,3 kg wooden board)
Material: Oak frame, patinated steel and reclaimed wood
