Description from the seller
Cast iron coffee grinder with two large flywheels (for even and powerful grinding)
• Top hopper for coffee beans
• Bottom drawer to catch the ground coffee
• Often finished in red/black
• Originally made for shops, the hospitality industry and roasteries
Origin & period
• Made by Enterprise Manufacturing Company (Philadelphia, USA)
• Late 19th / early 20th century (c. 1890–1910) No damage, good quality Antique Enterprise coffee grinder (c. 1900)
Large cast-iron retail coffee grinder from the famous Enterprise Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia, U.S.A. This impressive hand-cranked grinder features two large flywheels with a diameter of about 43 cm and a total height of approximately 60 cm. Pickup due to weight means I cannot ship it
The grinder bears the inscriptions “Enterprise”, “Philadelphia U.S.A.” and the patent date July 12, 1898, indicating a production period around the early part of the twentieth century. On top is the bean chute with lid, and at the bottom an original receptacle drawer for the ground coffee.
Finished in a striking red-and-black finish with gold-colored accents and crowned with a decorative eagle. The grinder stands as a handsome example of American industrial craftsmanship from the time when coffee was ground fresh in the shop.
