German school (XX) - Seenlandschaft mit Alpen

Atmospheric alpine lake landscape, oil on canvas, probably mid-20th century.

The painting shows a view over a quietly lying lake with a rocky shore in the foreground, a small sailboat on the water and a mountain range in the background. The composition is especially lively due to the gentle turquoise, blue and green tones of the water and the atmospherically blurred silhouette of the mountains. The depiction motifs recall views of Lake Constance (Bodensee) or a Swiss or northern Italian alpine lake.

The work is executed in a soft, slightly impressionistic painting style. Particularly appealing is the calm, luminous mood of the picture, which gives the work a decorative yet restrainedly elegant effect.

In the bottom left there is a red, hard-to-read signature or designation. A clear attribution to an artist is not currently possible.

Condition:
Overall rather good, age-appropriate condition. The canvas appears stable, back side clean and without immediately noticeable major damages. The paint layer shows age-appropriate surface traces, light soiling or varnish aging and isolated small abrasions. The frame shows age-appropriate signs of wear, small scratches and light bumps. Sale in the existing frame.
