Coin with commemorative design known as “Caravelle,” for the depiction of three caravels sailing full sail on the reverse, symbol of Italy’s exploring spirit. On the obverse, a feminine allegorical bust of Italy is depicted with an elaborate Renaissance headdress, surrounded by a crown of shields representing the Italian regions. This coin was minted in silver and is one of the most iconic of the Italian Republic in the 20th century.
