Partially gilded silver ciborium, France, 19th century - Louis Guillat
Elegant neo-Gothic-style ciborium in guilloché silver and partially gilded, resting on a multipartier base adorned with papal escutcheons featuring the keys of Saint Peter and the tiara.
The décor of scrolling and vegetal motifs is engraved and continues on the cup and the lid surmounted by a cross.
Stamped by the silversmith Louis Guillat, it testifies to a fine level of craftsmanship characteristic of 19th-century French religious silverware. Inner vermeil finish.
NB Louis Guillat mainly produced liturgical objects in solid silver, usually in French standard purity of 950/1000 (first fineness), but sometimes also in 800/1000 depending on periods and commissions.
To note: signs of wear, restorations, and alterations to the interior gilding visible in the photographs. Restorations.
