Description from the seller
Asterix and Caesar's Surprise (1985) – Original Production Animation Cel
Offered here is an original hand-painted animation cel from Asterix and Caesar's Surprise (Astérix et la Surprise de César), the classic animated feature released in 1985 and based on the beloved comic book series created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.
This authentic production cel was used during the making of the film and can be seen on screen at approximately 6 minutes and 45 seconds into the animation. The cel features a Roman character rendered in vibrant original animation paint on transparent acetate, demonstrating the traditional hand-crafted techniques used in European animation during the 1980s. A particularly interesting feature of this cel is the reinforcement of its registration holes with a strip of 35mm motion picture film attached along the bottom edge. This type of studio modification was occasionally employed when a cel required additional durability during production, providing a fascinating glimpse into the practical techniques used by animation studios.
Original production cels are unique artifacts from the filmmaking process, photographed frame by frame to create the final animated motion picture. As such, they represent an important piece of animation history and are highly sought after by collectors.
Size: 40 x 31 cm
