This is a Chinese bronze pagoda incense burner (塔式香炉, Tǎ shì Xiānglú), an object that combines architecture, symbolism and ritual function.
This is an octagonal pagoda lantern/incense burner in the shape of a classical Chinese pavilion (亭, Tíng) or pagoda (塔, Tǎ).
The two-part structure — an open lower body and an upper floor with a balustrade — is based on traditional Chinese wooden pavilion architecture.
The object can function as an incense burner (smoke escapes through the open lattice), a lantern (candle inside), or purely as a decorative/ritual object.
The pagoda in Chinese culture stands for cosmic ash (the connection between heaven and earth), Buddhist path and protection of the surroundings.
As a feng shui object, a pagoda is placed to block negative energy, promote career success and attract knowledge (the "Wenchang Pagoda").
Used on altars, in temples or as a status object in scholarly households.
This object can be shipped together with other items from me in this auction so that you pay shipping costs only once.
