Pair of large maiolica vases by Gualdo Tadino (c. 1900–1910), two objects with ovoid bodies and serpent-shaped handles, decorated in grottesche with blue and ochre, each measuring 64×33×22 cm; condition good with minor material defects, glaze loss in some areas and chips as described.
Description from the seller
This pair of large polychrome maiolica vases reflects the best historicist tradition of the Gualdo Tadino manufactory from the early twentieth century, inspired by sixteenth-century Renaissance models. The vases are characterized by large serpent-shaped handles that intertwine and set into the ovoid body, entirely decorated with grotesques and rich foliate scrolls on a blue and ochre ground. In the center stand circular reserves with profiles of warriors and classical figures, enriched by mascaroni and completed by the typical metallic lustre reflections that made Umbrian ceramics of this era famous.
Signature of the manufactory on the base as in the photo.
Dimensions each: 64x33x22 cm
Good condition of preservation, slight material defects, loss of glaze in some areas, defects due to normal wear over time, ceramic losses, chips as in the photo.
Bidders are invited to observe the photographs carefully, as they are an integral part of the description; the piece viewed in the images will be the same one delivered to your home.
