Description from the seller
Critical edition edited by G. Nicco Fasola in 2 volumes with the Atlas of the original drawings attached, complete with 49 plates and 80 drawings.
De Prospectiva Pingendi (literally: "On the Perspective of Painting") is a treatise on perspective written in the vernacular by Piero della Francesca. The dating of the work is uncertain and in any case linked to the late maturity of the author, between the 60s and 80s of the 15th century, by 1482.
The work is one of the fundamental treatises on the figurative arts of the Renaissance.
The discussion, free from philosophical and theological frills, concentrates on mathematical-geometric aspects, with specific practical applications, in a sober and clear style. For this reason Piero della Francesca can rightly be defined as one of the fathers of technical drawing.
The text is in very good, untouched condition.
The body of the plates and drawings of the Atlas is detached from the cover, which shows some stains.
The plates and drawings are nevertheless in excellent condition, with no marks or tears.
