Subject: Portrait of a child in profile

Very beautiful oil on panel depicting a profile portrait of a child, signed A. Kampf and attributable with certainty to Arthur Kampf (1864–1950), a German painter renowned at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
The composition stands out for its great psychological sensitivity and intimate approach. The child’s face, slightly inclined, is treated with a soft and nuanced touch, highlighting the delicacy of the flesh, the softness of modeling, and the subtlety of chromatic transitions. The neutral background emphasizes the subject’s presence and focuses the gaze on the inner expression.
Arthur Kampf, professor and director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, is particularly appreciated for his portraits and figures, where academic rigor and modern sensitivity come together. This panel perfectly illustrates this mastery, with a painting that is sober, elegant, and deeply human.
The work is presented in an antique moulded wooden frame, in harmony with the period and underscoring the intimate character of the portrait.
