The object shown is a brutalist design element made of cast bronze, typically dating from the 1970s. Object details at a glance Function: Originally, these massive bronze cast plates were designed as push-pull door handles (bump handles) for representative entry doors or as matching mailbox fronts. On the back there are usually threaded holes for mounting. Today they are also often collected as pure wall reliefs or works of art. Style: Brutalism / Mid-Century Modern. The style is characterized by raw, irregular surfaces and expressive, sculptural forms. Motif: An abstract, organic relief, often described as crater relief (a crater landscape seen from above) or as a floral element.
