Description from the seller
Oil on canvas 46 x 55 cm. Signed in the lower left corner. The frame is not included in the sale, but it is sent as a gift.
Begoña Garma Iriarte (Bilbao 1944), born in Bilbao, begins her artistic studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, having Antonio López, Villaseñor, Guijarro among others as her teachers, from whom she obtained the basic knowledge that has served as the start and foundation for her as a future painter.
She completed her studies in 1971, beginning her career in teaching and combining it with exhibitions throughout Spain.
Begoña Garma Iriarte develops her work from lived experiences and emotional matters; the work is expressed from vital constants, with the knowledge that the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid provided at the time, and through her own effort; a painting drawn from the fibers of her culture and shaped by subsequent impulses to become a concise narrative, and at the same time, memory. Garma Iriarte, born in Bilbao, became known in Basque artistic circles in the first half of the seventies, participating in numerous exhibitions across Spain; newly graduated in painting and drawing and having accumulated experience through contact with teachers who showed her what can be taught in art: the antecedents, the contributions of many, the language of forms and figures, and some canons that, as a starting point, are of necessary knowledge. It was like possessing the tool her profession demanded; the dexterity she was accumulating, the discourse that already appeared as a framework, but that made sense.
She has held exhibitions in cities such as Bilbao, Barcelona, Madrid, Tarragona, Valladolid, Pamplona, Málaga, or New York.
