Description from the seller
MECCANO COMPLETE EQUIPMENT No. 0–3 (SPANISH EDITION) – ORIGINAL BOX, ORIGINAL INSTRUCTION MANUAL, COMPLETE INTERIOR PRESENTATION IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION
A magnificent and very hard-to-find Meccano Complete Equipment No. 0–3 is offered at auction, corresponding to a Spanish edition from the period, preserved in an extraordinarily attractive state for collectors of antique toys, recreational engineering, and Meccano historical material.
This set stands out for the preservation of virtually all elements that have typically been lost over the decades: original box, original instruction manual in Spanish, interior layout, original protective papers, and a two-level internal presentation that allows viewing the set almost as it left the factory.
The Meccano brand, created by Frank Hornby at the beginning of the 20th century, revolutionized the concept of the educational toy by allowing real mechanical models to be built from standardized metal parts. For decades it was considered one of the world’s most advanced engineering toys and a genuine instrument for technical learning for generations of children and engineers.
This specimen belongs to a period especially appreciated by collectors due to the high manufacturing quality of the parts, the luxurious presentation of the sets, and the increasing scarcity of complete specimens preserved at this level.
MODEL IDENTIFICATION
Brand: Meccano
Model: Complete Equipment No. 0–3
Country: Spain
Manual language: Spanish
Estimated period: 1940s - 1950s
Materials: Painted steel, brass, nickel-plated steel, cardboard and printed paper
ORIGINAL BOX
The set retains its illustrated original box, a highly important element for collectors.
The lid retains the attractive era lithographed label with the classic Meccano illustration and the model identification “Complete Equipment.” The colors remain vivid and the print remains clearly recognizable.
The box shows outstanding preservation considering its age, with a solid and stable structure. Only minor signs of use and storage compatible with the passage of time are observed.
The corners show small wear and slight deformations typical of a piece more than eight decades old, without significant breaks or visible restorations. These details are normal and to be expected in a collectible item of this era.
The bottom part also retains its original features, including labels and historical distribution marks.
ORIGINAL INTERIOR PRESENTATION
One of the most notable aspects of this lot is the preservation of the original interior layout.
The contents are presented using a two-level organization system that allowed efficient storage of parts by size and function.
This configuration is especially appreciated because in most surviving sets the interior organization disappeared due to continued use.
The original arrangement allows understanding how these sets were marketed in their time and provides important historical and museum value.
FIRST LEVEL
On the upper level are various elements carefully organized:
Original instruction manual.
Meccano accessories.
Original cords and threads.
Perforated metal plates.
Structural elements.
Original storage compartments.
Notably, the preservation of the original protective papers that accompanied some pieces is particularly remarkable.
These papers rarely survive due to their fragility and were usually discarded during the early years of use.
Their presence constitutes a significant indication of the overall excellent conservation of the set.
SECOND LEVEL
The lower level houses a large portion of the mechanical components of the system:
Metal wheels.
Pulleys.
Perforated disks.
Angles.
Supports.
Structural elements.
Screws.
Nuts.
Washers.
Special transmission parts.
Many of the pieces remain perfectly orderly in their original compartments.
Some have not been dismantled from their historic location for decades, maintaining a presentation close to the original.
ORIGINAL INSTRUCTION MANUAL
The original instruction manual for sets No. 0 to No. 3 is included.
The manual is a fundamental piece of the set and is in exceptional condition.
The covers retain excellent visual presence.
The interior pages remain complete and the original construction diagrams are perfectly visible.
The illustrated models show numerous examples of machines, vehicles, mechanisms, structures, and technical constructions that could be made with the contents of the set.
For a manual of this age, its preservation can be described as outstanding.
OVERALL CONDITION
General condition: very good to excellent for its age.
Highlights:
✓ Original box preserved.
✓ Original manual preserved.
✓ Original interior organization.
✓ Complete two-level system.
✓ Original protective papers present.
✓ Very good visual presentation.
✓ Set is hard to find in this condition.
✓ Excellent piece for collection or display.
Only normal signs of aging typical of a historical piece are observed:
Light wear on some corners.
Small storage marks.
Natural aging of paper and cardboard.
Minimal signs of use consistent with age.
They do not affect the overall presentation or the collectible value of the set.
HISTORICAL AND COLLECTIBLE INTEREST
Complete Spanish Meccano sets from this period are increasingly scarce on the international market.
Most preserved examples show loss of pieces, missing manual, modern substitutions, or significant box deterioration.
The simultaneous presence of:
Original box,
Original manual,
Protective papers,
Interior layout,
Factory organization,
Two levels of storage
makes this specimen especially attractive to discerning collectors.
Moreover, it constitutes an excellent display object for toy museums, historical engineering collections, or Meccano-specialized collections.
NOTE FOR COLLECTORS
Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an essential part of the description and show in detail the actual condition of the set, interior organization, included pieces, and overall quality of the lot.
An exceptional opportunity to acquire an authentic Spanish Meccano from the era, extraordinarily well preserved and with a presentation that is hardly repeatable in today’s market.
