Set of three Second Empire prize medals by Jean-Auguste Barre, minted in Paris around 1860–1870, France, two copper and one silver (950‰) medal(s) of 50 mm each (total weight 107 g), officially attributed to the Comice Agricole of Parthenay (Deux-Sèvres) with the reverse showing a ploughing scene and unengraved central field, condition SUP to SUP+, authentic Original/officiel, no certificate of authenticity.

Set of 3 Second Empire reward medals by the Chief Engraver Jean-Auguste BARRE. Consistent lot from the Parthenay Agricultural Fair (Deux-Sèvres), founded in 1854.
1x Silver medal 1st quality 950‰ - 50 mm - 37 g - SUP+
1x Copper medal - 50 mm - 35 g - SUP
1x Copper medal - 50 mm - 35 g - SUP-
Artist: Jean-Auguste BARRE (1811-1896), Chief Engraver of Coins under Napoleon III. Signed "BARRE" on the obverse of all 3 pieces.
OBVERSE: Right-facing laureate profile of NAPOLEON III EMPEROR. Official type of prize coins and medals 1852-1870.
REVERSE: COMICE AGRICOLE DE L'ARRONDISSEMENT DE PARTHENAY (DEUX-SÈVRES) FOUNDED IN 1854. Traditional plowing scene with a farmer and oxen. Wreath of wheat and vine. Center blank/unengraved on the 3 medals = unawarded specimens, more sought-after.
STRIKE: Monnaie de Paris, circa 1860-1870.
Rim/punch marks: "ARGENT" + bee for the silver, "CUIVRE" + bee for the two copper. Very clear.
CONDITION: SUP to SUP+. Stunning original patinas. Reliefs intact. Original perforations for wearing on a neck ribbon with fragments of string and the original prize ribbon still present. Micro-scratches from handling within the blank fields, normal. No knocks or cleaning.
HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Very rare set of 2 metals from the same mint and same fair.
2. Fragments of the original prize ribbon on all 3 medals, including the fair's official red ribbon.
3. Blank central fields = non-nominated stock medals.
4. Total weight of the lot: 107g.
Note: The copper on the left shows a starting verdigris at the perforation. Stabilized and isolated. The other two pieces are perfect.
