Commemorative 50 Lira coin minted in 1971 to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the Battle of Manzikert (Malazgirt), one of the most transcendent events in Turkish history and in Seljuk expansion in Anatolia. The obverse features the bust of Alp Arslan, sultan of the Seljuk Empire, depicted with helmet and armor in a vigorous and detailed style that conveys authority and historical character. The reverse shows a stylized map of Anatolia pierced by converging arrows symbolizing the advance of the Seljuk forces, accompanied by the denomination FIFTY LIRA and the commemorative date 26 August 1071-1971. The specimen preserves an exceptional quality in line with MS67, with fully defined reliefs, intense original luster and clean fields that reflect light evenly. The minting presents a satin-like attractive appearance and extraordinary visual freshness, making it a standout modern Turkish numismatic commemorative piece.
