Description from the seller

Nikon Nikonos IV-A + Nikkor 80mm f/4 (Nikonos) — 35mm Underwater / All-Weather Camera (1980)

Hello from Japan!
We provide high-quality cameras and lenses to the world.

IMPORTANT — Please read carefully:
1) The light meter / automatic exposure is NOT functioning. Only the mechanical 1/90 sec (M90) shutter speed and Bulb are usable; the aperture-priority automatic exposure mode does not work. Please plan to shoot at the fixed mechanical 1/90 or on Bulb, using an external meter or Sunny-16 estimation.
2) Water-tightness has NOT been tested. The waterproof O-ring seals have not been pressure- or water-tested, and due to age the seals may have deteriorated, so leakage is possible. Please do NOT assume this camera is currently watertight. We strongly recommend professional O-ring inspection and servicing before any underwater use. As supplied, it is best regarded as a land-use / collector camera unless serviced.

Released in 1980, the Nikon Nikonos IV-A is part of the legendary Nikonos line of rugged, sealed 35mm cameras descended from the Calypso. Built as a watertight, all-metal "brick," it is a scale-focus (zone-focus) camera with aperture-priority automatic exposure backed up by a mechanical 1/90 sec speed and Bulb that work without a battery.

The fitted lens is the Nikkor 80mm f/4, one of the two "amphibious" Nikonos lenses (along with the 35mm) that can be used both in air and underwater. It focuses by distance scale. Note that, because of its longer focal length, the 80mm is normally framed with an accessory shoe-mount viewfinder (NOT included). "MADE IN JAPAN" is engraved on both the body and the lens.

Lens / Mount
This uses the dedicated Nikonos bayonet mount. The lens shown is included and mounted on the body. Focusing is by scale (no coupled rangefinder).

Condition: USED — Good
Pre-owned, with distinct signs of use. Please read the IMPORTANT notice above and the Known Issues below carefully before bidding.

Serial Number
Please check the photo.

Appearance
Relatively clean for a Nikonos, which is uncommon, with scuffs and scratches from normal use. Please check the photos for details.

Optical Condition
The lens and the viewfinder show only slight haze and are otherwise very clear. No fungus, scratches, or balsam separation were observed.

Functional
The shutter operates well at the mechanical 1/90 sec (M90) speed and on Bulb. The exposure meter and the aperture-priority automatic exposure are not working (see Known Issues). The aperture and focus rings turn correctly.

Known Issues
- Light meter / auto exposure: Not functioning. Only the mechanical 1/90 sec (M90) and Bulb can be used. The battery-powered aperture-priority auto mode does not operate.
- Waterproofing: The O-ring seals have not been tested for water-tightness. Because of their age the seals may have degraded and leakage is possible. The camera is NOT guaranteed watertight as supplied; professional O-ring service is recommended before any underwater use.

Bundled Items
- Nikon Nikonos IV-A camera body
- Nikkor 80mm f/4 lens (Nikonos), mounted on the body
