Execution A Stummel
The Sturmgeschütz III (Sd.Kfz. 142 / Sd.Kfz. 142/1 also StuG III) was the most built fully tracked armored fighting vehicle of the German Wehrmacht. It was developed before the start of World War II as a heavily armored support vehicle for infantry within a collaboration between Daimler-Benz and Krupp AG.
The original mission of the vehicle changed during the war from its previous use as assault artillery to use in anti-tank warfare.
The Army Ordnance Office ordered from Daimler-Benz an initial series of 30 assault guns, which were built on the chassis of 5./ZW (ZW 38). In May 1939 there was a larger discussion, as the new transmissions were not yet fully developed and the HWA, or WaPrüf 6 represented by Dipl.-Ing. Ernst Kniepkamp, proposed a provisional installation, which, however, should not accelerate production, since they were still waiting for shock absorbers from Boge, which were only slated for July. A note dated 13 October 1939 already records a future development (7.5-cm gun L/41) of the armament. Between January and May 1940 the 30 vehicles were delivered. Typical for the first series was the narrow 360-mm track with the corresponding drive and running rollers, the unarmored shock absorbers and rectangular boxes at the back on the track guard plates. The V12 gasoline engine Maybach HL 120 TR and a Variorex gearbox from Maybach were installed.
Very nice collection of detailed figures.
A must for every collector.
Note: Costs for parcel shipment include packaging, shipping, postage, tracking and insurance up to €500. Figures are fragile. Damage may occur in transit.
