Commemorative silver coin of 200 Korún issued in 1998 to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the Slovak poet Ján Smrek (1898-1982), one of the most prominent figures in 20th-century Slovak literature. The obverse shows a profile portrait of the writer, rendered in a modern and elegant artistic treatment, accompanied by his signature and the dates of birth and death. The design incorporates wavy lines evoking poetic inspiration and the lyrical character of his work. The reverse features a stylized female figure, allegory of Slovak poetry, alongside the national coat of arms, the face value and the issue date. The reliefs are delicate and well executed, standing out on smooth fields of notable brilliance. The extraordinary grade MS68 awarded by PCGS places this specimen among the best preserved of the issue, with virtually flawless surfaces, intense original luster, excellent visual contrasts, and an outstanding presentation that enhances the artistic quality of the design and its cultural significance.
