Pre-Columbian Chimu textile fragment from Peru, ca. 1000–1200 AD, woven in cotton and camelid fibre, mounted on a neutral backing and measuring 36 by 14 cm, in very good condition with minor edge fraying, acquired in 2025 from a German auction house with a German export licence.

Pre-Columbian finely woven Chimu textile fragment in cotton and camelid fibre from the North Coast of Peru
The lighter bands contain stylised anthropomorphic figures with raised arms, wearing rectangular tunics and elaborate headdresses.
These figures likely represent ritual dancers, attendants, or mythological beings, common themes in Chimu ceremonial textiles.
Between them appear bird figures, adding rhythmic structure to the composition.
The red bands feature repeating spiral and wave patterns.
Condition:
Minor fraying at the edges
Colours remain strong and well‑defined
Mounted on a neutral black cloth backing and lightly attached to a hard paper (removable)
From the wrappings of a mummy bundle.
Time period: Ca. 1000 - 1200 AD
Dimensions: 36 x 14 cm
Provenance: purchased at a German auction - with copy of German export license
