Description from the seller

Interesting commemorative Italian Masonic bronze medal with original case from Gioielleria Rocchi in Rome, Italy, made on the occasion of the XXX (thirtieth) Anniversary of the Foundation of the Gran Loggia of Italian A.L.A.M. Freemasons.
The date on the medal, 3 December 1978, celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of the foundation of the Masonic obedience. From this indication one infers that the historical reference is to the foundation occurred in 1948, a period particularly important for the reorganization of Italian Freemasonry in the post-war era.

The specimen represents an interesting historical and symbolic document of Italian Freemasonry in the second half of the 20th century.

Front side:
Along the edge there is the inscription:
"GRAN LOGGIA D'ITALIA DEGLI A.L.A.M. LIB. ACCETT. MURATORI"

In the inner part appears the Latin phrase:
"QUI QUAERIT INVENIT - CURSORES VITAE LAMPADA TRADUNT"

translatable as:
"He who seeks shall find" and "The runners of life pass the torch to one another".
The central scene is particularly rich in symbols:
a pyramid, traditional symbol of spiritual elevation, inner construction and the search for perfection;
a sphinx, associated with knowledge, mystery and ancient wisdom;
a radiant sun, symbol of light, truth and knowledge;
architectural elements that recall the initiatic path and the Masonic tradition.

At the bottom the date appears:

A.L. 5928

which corresponds to the Masonic year calculated according to the initiatic tradition.

Back side:
On the edge is the inscription:
"ANNIVERSARIO DELLA FONDAZIONE DELLA GRAN LOGGIA D'ITALIA DEGLI A.L.A.M. - XXX - 3-12-1978"
The central composition depicts numerous symbolic and monumental elements related to Rome.

They include:

the Roman eagle with the inscription SPQR;
columns decorated with symbolic letters;
references to classical Roman architecture;
ornamental elements associated with initiatic tradition and the historical continuity of the Order.

The whole creates a strong link between Italian Freemasonry, the Roman tradition and the Western symbolic heritage.
