Description from the seller
Wellner Antique Cutlery Set (1931) – Art Deco Style / Augsburger Faden – 34 Pieces
I am selling a beautiful and rich antique cutlery set signed August Wellner Söhne, a historic German manufactory of excellence. The set is made of heavy-quality silver-plated metal (German standard hallmark 90).
The design is the famous "Augsburger Faden" (filet style with swirls), a great classic of the Art Deco period.
Contents of the lot (34 pieces total):
• 16 large dinner forks: of which 10 extremely rare pieces bear the small lowercase 'f' in a circle hallmark, certifying exact production in 1931. The remaining 6 pieces are contemporaneous later additions of the same model.
• 8 large dinner knives: of which 5 antique pieces with blades stamped "Nicht Rostend" (1930s/40s) and 3 later pieces with blades "Solingen Rostfrei" (1950s).
• 6 fish knives: elegant and with the typical flat geometric blade (2 pieces from 1931 with the letter "f", 4 later pieces).
• 4 large soup spoons: all original from 1931 with the year mark "f".
Condition:
The cutlery is structurally sound, sturdy and intact. They show the natural patina of time and require a normal silver polish to restore their original luster. The knife handles are secure. Some staining is present.
A splendid piece for modernist collectors or to set a formal vintage table with great charm.
