Description from the seller
Oil painting on panel
This work is part of my duo auction, in which I bring together several paintings around calm, vulnerability, and the longing to disappear from the world for a while.
During the auction I will share additional studio views on Instagram: details, moments of the process, paint choices, and small reflections on the works. For those who enjoy not only the final result but also the search behind it, there is more to follow via @francienkrieg.
I enjoy painting portraits of young men and adolescents because there is something special in that life phase: a vulnerability that has not yet become hardened by the world. Their faces and bodies carry an uncertainty within them — they are not fully formed yet, but full of promise and possibilities. What interests me is precisely that in-between moment: no longer a child, not yet a man. In that transition lies a beauty I want to capture, the openness of what can still be and the fragile awareness that this stage lasts only briefly.
All series — from self-portraits and aging bodies to young male boxers, women at sunset, and intimate scenes with cats — can be found on my website, where you can also read more about my background and motives:
www.francienkrieg.com
I work exclusively with high-quality materials: professionally prepared linen or smooth panels, and oil paints of top quality, rich in pigment. Each work is created with care and dedication — intended to endure, not only in terms of material, but also in meaning.
