The vintage Fortis Chronograph Ref. 187 “Up/Down” is a distinctive and highly collectible timepiece, prized for its utilitarian design and mechanical character. Housed in a robust stainless steel case, it features a clean, legible dial layout highlighted by its unique “up/down” chronograph registers at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions, adding both visual interest and practical functionality. It’s postwar estimated around 1948.
Powered by the reliable Valjoux 77 manual-wind movement, the watch offers precise chronograph performance with a tactile, engaging winding experience. Its classic proportions, rectangular pushers, and period-correct detailing make it a compelling example of mid-century tool watch design, appealing to collectors who value both historical significance and mechanical authenticity.
The Fortis Chronograph Ref 187 features a 35mm stainless steel case with rectangular chronograph pushers, a solid case back, and an acrylic crystal. The dial features sub-registers at the 12- and 6-o’clock positions, an outer railroad-style minutes track, Arabic numerals, and copper-colored hour and minute hands. The Ref 187 is powered by a manual-wind Valjoux 77 movement.
The watch is in excellent condition and all functions timekeeping and chrono work flawlessly.

The watch is matched with a natural leather NATO strap but of course the 18mm lugs can facilitate multiple strap options.
