Description from the seller

17th-century Italian School. Saint Lucy in oil on panel with its original gilded wooden frame.
Representation of the saint, the martyr, with the palm (martyrdom) and the dish with eyes (her main attribute).
This 27 x 22 cm piece, executed in oil on panel, is a devotional representation of Saint Lucy, probably belonging to the Italian school of the late 17th or early 18th century.
The iconography is unequivocal due to the tray with two eyes that the saint holds and the martyr’s palm, traditional attributes of Lucia of Syracuse, patron saint of sight.
The use of oil on panel in this small format (cabinet-sized) was common in Italian painting for private or domestic devotion. The style shows a transition between late Baroque and classicism, aiming for a serene and devout expression in the face.
Similar works of the Italian school of this period are often attributed to followers of masters such as Guido Reni or Giuseppe Soleri, who spread this type of devotional aesthetics across Europe.
