Emil Busch (born August 6, 1820 in Berlin; died April 1, 1888 in Rathenow) was a German industrialist in precision mechanics and optics. He was involved in the invention of the wide-angle lens.
In 1868 Busch was appointed Royal Commercial Councillor by the King for his merits. In 1872 he transformed the company into a joint-stock company to facilitate necessary investments. It did so with the help of the Quistorp & Co. cooperative bank. The share capital of the joint-stock company amounted to 275,000 talers. In the resulting Rathenow Optical Industry Institute, formerly Emil Busch A.-G., Emil Busch thereafter held high positions as a “delegate of the supervisory board” and as a director.

The company subsequently achieved a dominant market position. Thanks to unofficial arrangements with Zeiss, it limited free competition. Carl Zeiss had his son Roderich do an commercial apprenticeship with Busch. Busch, in turn, contributed with an assessment that the state granted Zeiss’s Glass Technology Laboratory a subsidy of 35,000 talers. Busch, who never studied, died in 1888. On his account and on that of Johann and Eduard Duncker, the town of Rathenow became synonymous with high-quality optical devices.

The theatre glass captivates with its very good preserved condition.
Smooth adjustment and alignment—clear lenses—dust-free, cleaned!

An absolute must for enthusiasts and collectors!

Approximate dimensions: Height when extended: 6.5 cm
Length: 10 cm
Width of the lower lens: 3 cm

Includes antique leather case with patina; on the side the seams have come apart, but functional. The metal element shown in detail is the push button or the rivet closure of the original leather case. Decoration: The embossed radiant crown on the button imitates a stylized sun and served as a decorative element on these often elegant, colored leather or velvet cases, signed Busch. Material: It is an embossed, gilded brass element that was pulled over the push button of the case.
Condition: Many of these old cases show wear from decades of use, so the imprint on the soft metal often looks like a worn antique coin.
