Description from the seller
Sculpture in marble powder depicting the head of Eros.
The work of Hellenistic origin was discovered in 1772 at Centocelle (Rome), from which it takes its name; it is in fact also known as the Eros of Centocelle.
It was purchased by Pope Clement XIV and consequently exhibited in the Hall of Busts and Statues of the Vatican Museums, where it is preserved to this day.
In 1800, for a short period, the Eros of Centocelle was also exhibited at the Louvre after Napoleon Bonaparte’s acquisition from Pope Pius VI under the Treaty of Tolentino.
Academic professional sculpture, entirely handmade by professional artisans. A piece from a museum plaster cast collection. The work has very ancient origins and is executed entirely by hand by artists in the sculptural sector, made with materials such as scagliola and Carrara marble powder.
The indicated dimensions are understood to include the base, if present.
Shipping is entrusted to a packaging company (professional packing).
