Description from the seller
La Balda Baldaxette I is a German camera produced by Balda in the postwar years, belonging to a series of compact and foldable cameras that were widespread in Europe between the 1940s and 1950s. This model stands out for its elegant and classic design, with a metal frame, faux leather covering, and the characteristic collapsible bellows that allowed the camera to be made more compact during transport.
The Baldaxette I generally used medium-format film and offered fully manual operation, requiring the photographer to directly control shutter speeds, aperture, and focusing. Like many cameras of the era, it was designed for slow, deliberate photography, where each shot was prepared with care.
The lenses mounted on these cameras could vary depending on configuration, but were often valued for their soft, highly characteristic rendering, typical of European vintage photography. Even aesthetically, the Baldaxette I still today retains a strong retro charm, thanks to the mechanical finishes and the folding system that instantly evokes the great classic cameras of the twentieth century.
