Viking Era Silver Axe amulet Pendant with suspension ring

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid. A Viking Age silver axe pendant, formed with a broad flaring blade and integral suspension loop. The upper section is decorated with an incised saltire within a rectangular panel, with further incised linear borders above and below. The pendant is complete with its original silver suspension ring, -> Axe pendants are among the most recognisable personal ornaments of the Viking Age. They are often associated with strength, protection, and warrior identity, while smaller wearable examples may also have served as amuletic objects. Size: ± 28,6 x 15,5 (axe) Diameter suspension loop: ± 15,1 mm Condition: Good ancient condition with minor surface irregularities and signs of wear consistent with age and use. The incised decoration remains clearly visible, and the original suspension ring is intact. Pendants of this type could reflect status, personal identity, or protective belief, and they belong to the broader tradition of Viking Age silver jewellery worn on the body or suspended from chains and cords. Material: This object has been carefully examined for its material and surface characteristics. Laboratory analysis (e.g. XRF) is not routinely undertaken in private collecting, and destructive testing is avoided as it causes permanent damage to archaeological material. Before modern hallmarking, gold and silver alloys varied depending on local resources, recycling practices and economic conditions.
