Auction Title: Ladies' Pocket Watch by Flamor in Silver Plate with Cherub - c. 1950
Technical and Aesthetic Description:
This pendant-style pocket watch for ladies features a sterling silver case with a diameter of 30.83 mm and a gross total weight of 23.15 grams. The front side highlights a white dial in excellent condition with black Roman numerals, a chemin de fer perimeter minute track, and elegant Louis XVI-style blued steel ornamental hands. The reverse shows notable repoussé work in late Neoclassical/Rococo style, whose central iconography depicts a winged putto (cherub) seated on vegetal motifs and framed by scrolls and Rocaille. Mechanically, it houses a manual-winding movement with anchor escapement, segmented bridges with linear decoration (fausses côtes) and visible synthetic rubies. The piece is finished with a fluted onion crown and an oval bow, preserving on the neck edge micro-hallmarks that certify the metal’s purity, along with a natural oxidation patina.
History and Rarity:
The Flamor brand was closely linked to the watchmaking industry of the Besançon region (France) in the mid-20th century, characterized by the assembly of ornate cases using base (ébauches) French and Swiss movements of proven reliability.
