An impressive two-door wardrobe in Louis Philippe antique style, circa 1850–1900, finished in mahogany veneer on a pine/oak carcass, with mirrored flame veneer on both doors, in good condition with minor signs of aging, measuring 200 cm high, 130 cm wide, and 42 cm deep, with a working original lock and key.
Description from the seller
Impressive two-door wardrobe in Louis-Philippe style, manufactured around the mid-19th century. The cabinet is finished in mahogany veneer over a pine/oak carcass, with beautiful mirrored flame veneer on both doors.
What is special about this cabinet is the fine hand-carved acanthus leaf decoration on all four corner stiles, both above and below. The cornice features a characteristic ribbed frieze, also typical of the Louis-Philippe period. The cabinet stands on turned ball-shaped feet.
Inside, the cabinet has multiple shelves, two built-in drawers, and a drawer in the plinth. Notably, the bottom drawer can be locked from the inside with an original wooden pin, causing it to sit flush with the exterior of the cabinet’s plinth—a clever and elegant hidden storage compartment, typical of high-quality 19th-century cabinetmaking craftsmanship.
The cabinet comes from private Dutch possession and was owned by a lady born around 1900, which suggests the piece has been in the same family for well over a century.
Condition: good for its age. Minor signs of use appropriate to age. Carving intact. Veneering in good condition. The original door lock functions fully, including the original key. The hidden bottom drawer with wooden pin also operates without issue.
Pickup near Den Bosch (’s-Hertogenbosch); transport at the buyer’s expense.
