Art Déco three-piece mantel garniture from around 1930, in marble and green onyx, with a central mechanical pendulum clock and two matching side cassolettes, of French origin, eight-day power reserve, in good used condition.
Description from the seller
General description:
Magnificent three-piece Art Deco style and period fireplace garniture (circa 1930), composed of a central clock and its two matching side cassolettes. This ensemble stands out for the remarkable quality of its marble marquetry, combining veined marble with delicate shades of pink, white, and Siena, enhanced on each element by geometric touches of light green onyx.
The central clock is adorned with two magnificent symmetrical regule sculptures with a dark patina, representing gazelles in mid-leap, an emblematic and highly sought-after motif of the Art Deco period. The round dial features a two-tone black and gold background with stylized Arabic numerals typical of the 1930s.
The two stylized cassolettes perfectly reproduce the same varieties of marble and onyx, completing the set with perfect balance.
Dimensions and weight (as recorded on the docket):
Central element (Clock): 54 cm x 23 cm x 7 cm — Weight: 5 kg
Side cassolettes (x2): 13 cm x 13 cm x 7 cm (each) — Weight: 1 kg per piece
Total weight of the set: 7 kg
Condition:
The set is in very good overall aesthetic condition. The marble is sound, bright, with no major cracks or structural gaps (some very light micro-chips from use at the corners, normal for its age and attesting to its authenticity).
The underside of the clock’s terrace bears antique reference annotations (V101).
The original key-wound clock mechanism is present at the back with its winding key. Although complete, the mechanical movement is sold as-is (not tested over time; a service or simple adjustment by the buyer may be required to ensure perfect regularity).
A piece of decoration of great elegance, ideal for dressing a fireplace, a sideboard, or a refined interior typical of Art Deco.
