Description from the seller

Set of 2 Vintage Japanese Deba Knives – Signed “Toyokiku Saku” and “Gyokuryū Saku” – Traditional Single-Bevel Fish Processing Knives
ヴィンテージ和出刃包丁 大小2本セット 「豊菊作」「商標玉竜作」銘入り
Offered here is a pair of vintage Japanese Deba knives in two practical sizes. Deba knives are among the most iconic traditional Japanese kitchen tools, designed primarily for filleting fish, processing whole fish, and performing precise yet robust cutting tasks.

The larger knife bears the signature “豊菊作 (Toyokiku Saku)”, while the smaller knife retains a branded handle mark reading “商標玉竜作 (Trademark Gyokuryū Saku)”. The reverse side of the smaller blade is additionally marked “STAINLESS STEEL.”

These knives feature the thick spine, substantial weight, and powerful blade geometry characteristic of traditional Japanese Deba knives. Designed as working tools rather than display pieces, they reflect the practical craftsmanship and durability that have long made Japanese cutlery respected worldwide.

The set combines a larger Deba suitable for general fish preparation with a smaller companion knife for finer work, making it an interesting lot for collectors, restorers, and users of traditional Japanese kitchen knives.

Approximate Dimensions

Condition

Please examine all photographs carefully.

These knives are offered in original vintage condition and show significant signs of age, use, and storage, including:

Surface rust and oxidation
Staining and discoloration
Scratches from use and sharpening
Minor damage and wear to the blade tips
Cracks and deterioration around the ferrule (handle collar)
Wear and aging to the wooden handles
General signs of long-term storage

No professional cleaning, polishing, sharpening, or restoration has been performed.

Accordingly, this lot is recommended only for buyers who understand the condition of vintage Japanese knives and who possess the knowledge and skills necessary to clean, sharpen, repair, or restore them if desired.

Important Notice Regarding Shipping

Please note that certain areas of these knives, particularly around the ferrule and handle sections, exhibit age-related weakness and deterioration.

While the knives will be packed carefully and securely for international shipment, there remains a possibility that unavoidable impacts, vibration, pressure, or handling during international transport may cause the condition of the items to differ slightly from their condition at the time of dispatch.

By placing a bid, the buyer acknowledges and accepts this possibility as an inherent risk associated with the shipment of fragile vintage items.

An appealing opportunity to acquire two signed vintage Japanese Deba knives representing traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Suitable for collectors, study, display, restoration projects, or continued use following appropriate maintenance.
