Daum Nancy soliflore multistratified glass vase dated ca. 1905–1910, in yellow, red and green cammeo glass with a bulbous base and a four-lobed mouth, signed with the Lorraine cross, in good used condition with a small chip on the base.
Description from the seller
Elegant "solifleur" vase in multistratified artistic glass, a masterpiece of the prestigious Daum Nancy Manufacture, dating from the 1905-1910 period. The vase features a slender bulbous base culminating in an elegant narrow neck with a four-lobed corolla-type mouth, typical of the era's floral taste.
The object is a superb testament to the technical innovations of the École de Nancy:
- Multistratified glass with Inclusions: The body is made of transparent glass with spectacular inclusions of vitrefic powders (vitrifications) in sun-yellow and amber tones, fading to meadow green toward the base, creating a luminous and vibrant background.
- Acid Engraving and High-Fired Enamels: The botanical decoration, depicting Montbretia flowers, was first shaped by acid engraving to give relief to the stems and leaves. The petals were then hand-painted with polychrome vitreous enamels in orange and fiery red hues, set by a second firing to ensure lasting brilliance.
- Satin Finish: The surface was treated with acid to obtain a matte, velvety finish to the touch (finition mate), which enhances the depth of the colors without superfluous reflections.
- Artist: Daum Nancy (signed with the Lorraine Cross, painted with green enamel on the side of the base).
- Period: Circa 1910 (Full Art Nouveau period).
- Condition: Excellent. The vase shows a small nick on the base. The upper corolla edge is intact and the enamel colors are vivid and perfectly preserved.
The "solifleur" model with quadrilobate open mouth is one of the most loved for its formal elegance. The sun-toned color combination and the quality of the enamel signature make this specimen a piece of definite interest for any collection of fine French art glass.
