Cylindrical perfume bottle dating from circa 1900–1910, made in colourless satin glass with hand-painted purple and burgundy orchid motifs and gilt detailing, with two original metal mounts, in the Nancy Daum/Delatte tradition, 15.5 cm high and 3.5 cm wide, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Slender cylindrical elegant perfume bottle, crafted in artistic glass with refined burnished metal mounts. The piece is a classic example of high French glassmaking from around 1900-1910, strongly influenced by botanical models from Daum Nancy.
The object displays execution quality typical of the Lorraine excellence of the era:
- Satinized Glass "Ice Effect": The bottle body is made of colorless glass, entirely acid-etched to obtain a satin, velvety (mat) surface that imitates frost.
- Enamel and Gold Decoration: The bottle is finely decorated with small wild orchid flowers (Orchis) hand-painted with vitreous enamels in purples and burgundy tones. Leaf and tendril details are rendered with a delicate technique of gold enamel, giving luminosity to the composition.
- Double Original Mounting: The lot is complete with its external protective cap, finely repoussé with foliate motifs at the base, and the internally coordinated screw cap. Both metal components carry a natural and fascinating patina of time.
- Base Finish: The bottle base has been cold-ground and polished, a characteristic feature of high-quality production of the era.
- Attribution: Nancy School (Daum Nancy / Delatte style).
- Era: Circa 1900-1910 (Art Nouveau).
- Condition: Excellent period conditions. The glass is intact, free of chips or threads. The enamels and gold plating are well preserved. The metal mounts are original to the period and functional.
Although the item shows no visible signatures, the technical coherence (acid-etched glass, high-fire enamels, repoussé mounts) allows a confident attribution to the Nancy production area. Pieces of this quality that are “unsigned” are highly appreciated by antiques glass collectors for their historical authenticity and aesthetic charm.
