Elegant cylindrical perfume bottle in multicolored glass with gilt botanical decoration, circa 1900–1910, Nancy, France; height 14.5 cm, width 4 cm, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Elegant cylindrical perfume (or salt) bottle, made of multilayered artistic glass with refined gold fineness decorations and original metal setting. The piece is a classic example of high French school production from circa 1900-1910, heavily influenced by the botanical models of Daum Nancy Manifacture.
The object displays execution quality typical of Lorraine glass excellence of the era:
- Multilayer Varied Glass: The bottle body features a splendid color gradient shifting from a delicate violet/lavender at the base to a deep ruby/fuchsia toward the top, obtained by layering colored glass.
- Givré finish (Ice effect): The exterior surface is entirely worked with acid to achieve a satin and grainy texture, realistically imitating frost and cold, a distinctive technique of the Nancy productive area.
- Engraving and Gilding: The floral decoration (leaves and tendrils of anemone or orchid) is first acid-engraved and subsequently embellished with fine 24-karat gold (gold enamel) highlighting the contours and botanical details, giving a precious luminosity to the composition.
- Original mount: The bottle retains its original gilded/darkened metal base, enriched with a beaded edge that attests to the care for ornamental detail.
- Attribution: Nancy School (Daum Nancy / Gallé style).
- Era: circa 1900-1910 (Art Nouveau).
- Condition: Excellent period condition. The glass is intact, with no chips or cracks. The gold decorations are well preserved and bright. The metal mount shows a natural patina that confirms its authenticity.
Although the object has no visible signatures, the coherence of the techniques used (multilayer glass, givré finish, high-temperature gilding) allows attributing it with certainty to the influence area of the École de Nancy. Pieces of this chromatic elegance are highly valued for their light-catching ability and their historical-aesthetic value.
