Antique French mantel clock dial and movement from c. 1800–1850, copper gilt bezel with guilloché detailing, enamel dial with Roman numerals, two winding holes for time and hammer strike, mechanical movement with an 8-day power reserve, strikes a bell at half and full hour, 12 cm square (12 × 12 × 7 cm), weighing 500 g, in reasonable used condition and requires overhaul.
Description from the seller
This is the dial and movement section of an antique French pendulum clock (table or mantel clock). The style is typical of the Empire or Biedermeier period from the first half of the 19th century (circa 1800–1850).
Characteristics of the object shown
White enamel dial: Featuring black Roman numerals. There are light blemishes and scratches visible around the winding holes and the central arbor.
Bezel: A detailed fire-gilded or brass lunette with a fine grained or rope-motif (guilloché).
Hands: There is currently only one black steel hand (the hour hand) present. The minute hand is missing.
Two winding holes: This indicates a mechanical movement with two independent barrels. One hole is for the going train (the time) and the other for the striking train (usually a bell that strikes on the half and full hour).
The clock needs restoration.
