African Sculptures & Masks from an Austrian Collection

The Kusu, who live on the left bank of the Lualaba River, were heavily influenced by their neighbors. In the Hemba and Luba, they adopted the life-size statues associated with ancestor worship. The Hemba also provided the model for the African Janus statuettes.

Die am linken Ufer des Lualaba-Flusses lebenden Kusu wurden stark von ihren Nachbarn beeinflusst. In Hemba und Luba übernahmen sie die lebensgroßen Statuen, die mit der Ahnenverehrung in Zusammenhang stehen. Die Hemba lieferten auch das Modell der afrikanischen Janus-Statuetten.
