Description from the seller
Item Description
This is a charming Japanese vintage pencil sharpener manufactured by ELM under the model name "As 2000," dating from the Showa era (likely 1970s–80s). The compact desktop design features a vivid red enamelled metal body with chrome-finished accents, topped by two pencil-grip clamps for holding the pencil steady during sharpening. The hand-crank mechanism on the side allows for manual operation, and an adjustable dial on the top lets the user select the sharpening grade according to pencil hardness (graphite grades 1–5).
The front and side panels are decorated with charming retro motifs: a transparent rose-tinted plastic shaving compartment etched with a starburst and constellation design, and a black lacquer panel with an elegant gold clover/medallion pattern on the opposite side. This combination of bold red lacquer, chrome detailing, and whimsical celestial ornamentation captures the playful yet stylish design sensibility of mid-to-late 20th century Japanese stationery.
A wonderful collectible piece for fans of Showa-era design, retro office decor, or pencil sharpener collectors. Please note this is being sold as a decorative/collectible item due to its age and condition (see Condition section).
