Description from the seller
Sterling Silver Sugar Caster / Muffineer / Salt shaker signed FTG
Elegant sterling silver caster or sugar shaker, crafted in a timeless baluster form with a removable pierced dome cover. The piece bears the FTG maker's mark together with the word "Sterling", indicating a silver content of 925/1000. The classic shape and restrained decoration make it suitable for both traditional and contemporary table settings.
Originally intended as a sugar or salt caster (often called a muffineer), this type of vessel was used to sprinkle fine sugar over fruit, pastries, cakes and desserts. It can equally serve as a spice or cocoa shaker and remains a refined addition to a breakfast, tea or dining table.
The polished silver surface reflects the quality of the silversmith's craftsmanship, while the elegant proportions and removable pierced cover add both practicality and decorative appeal. Similar FTG sterling silver shakers are known from the early to mid-20th century.
Condition: Good vintage condition with normal signs of age and use, including light surface scratches and minor wear to the silver. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
