Description from the seller
"Antique double bedspread in pure linen and Cantù/Renaissance lace, handmade". A Beautiful example of a handmade linen bedspread with lace inserts, a classic vintage bedding item that represents value not only economically, but above all historically and artisanally.
• Material: The base fabric appears to be high-quality linen (or a very fine linen-cotton blend), recognizable by its natural shine and the characteristic slightly irregular weave. The color is a refined ivory/cream white.
• Craftsmanship (Cantù Lace or Renaissance): The inserts are made with bobbin lace techniques (similar to Cantù style) or Renaissance stitch. A large central floral medallion stands out, surrounded by an elaborate "frame" of scrolls that extends across the entire surface.
• Details:
• Cutwork Stitch: The lace is joined to the linen through a meticulous cutwork technique (hand-finishing of the edges where the fabric has been removed to make room for the lace).
• Border: The perimeter is finished with a coordinated, thinner lace that echoes the central motif. The design is complex (very extensive and not limited to the edges) and the linen is pristine. It shows no signs of wear; never used.
