AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Côte d'ivoire / Senoufo

Equestrian statue Syonfolo, Senoufo, from Côte d'Ivoire
Hardwood – the sculpture is finely worked, with a drying crack on one side, wear patina, kaolin on the eyelids and blue pigment around the mouth. Elongated face with a rectangular open mouth. Beautiful tall elaborated hairstyle whose cut on the forehead allows attributing this object to the Gouro ethnicity, stylistically and geographically close to the Baoulé. The dancer can secure the mask by tying the dance costume around the broad rear collar. The view remains possible through the mouth (no holes added later to "make it more real"). Given the style, patina and condition of the wood, this mask from a European collection is more than fifty years old.
Dimensions: 40 cm

Very beautiful patina. Indigenous repairs using a ferrous staple at the level of the arm and the axe.
Dark hardwood, partly eroded on the surface.

Presumed antiquity: Mid 20th century

Ex Collection Belge.
Provenance / Personal collection gathered over more than thirty years.
